A new display celebrating three years of Gannochy Trust-funded work will open at Perth Museum on 13 November 2025.
The display, Be Seen, Be Heard, showcases three years of creative collaboration through the Perth Museum Partner Schools Programme, which has engaged children in Primary 4-7 (ages 8-11) at 9 local schools, and the Culture Perth and Kinross Youth Collective, a group comprised of local 16 to 25-year-olds who advise and lead on activities and displays for young people, by young people. This display is a celebration of the creativity, passion, and ingenuity of the next generation.
On display are objects created by the children and young people for various projects over the years, as well as their key highlights, achievements, and contributions. These include objects from the Fleapit Theatre in 2024, the first youth-curated exhibition ever displayed at Perth Art Gallery, and protest signs created by Primary 6 pupils in a workshop with Perth-based printmaker Marliese Richmond of Three Bears Prints, who drew inspiration from the climate-focused exhibition at Perth Museum Waters Rising. Visitors to the display can also enjoy a sneak peek of garments designed by the Youth Collective ahead of their upcoming fashion show at the AK Bell Library on 21 November, A Century of Youth. The show will explore one hundred years of youth culture through twenty upcycled looks and tickets are now on sale.
Kirsty Brown, Learning Manager at Culture Perth and Kinross, said “Culture Perth and Kinross is very grateful to the Gannochy Trust who has enabled us to fund three years of a learning programme across in Perth Museum, Perth Art Gallery and the Culture Perth and Kinross Libraries. We are delighted to be celebrating the wonderful achievements of our young people who have all engaged so positively with our buildings, services and become a real part of the Culture Perth and Kinross learning offer. This display is a lovely tribute to all the hard work and enthusiasm the young people have displayed over the past three years.”
Euan, Caleigh and Stephen from the Culture Perth and Kinross Youth Collective added “The Youth Collective has been an amazing group that’s helped me build my confidence through a bunch of creative projects… I’ve improved my skills in planning and organising, as well as being more creative.”
“I have appreciated the opportunities that being a part of the collective has given me, such as being able to attend exhibition previews and do tours of gallery stores.”
“Collaborating and bouncing ideas around with everyone was fun… and I feel more comfortable in communicating my ideas, also I have a deeper appreciation of all the moving parts that go in to creating exhibitions”.
The work on display has been made possible through generous funding from The Gannochy Trust.
Be Seen, Be Heard runs from 13 November to 23 November 2025 on the 2nd floor of Perth Museum; admission is free, donations are welcome.
A Century of Youth: 100 Years of Youth Fashion takes place on Friday 28 November at the AK Bell Library, tickets cost £3.50 and can be bought from Perthshire Box Office.
