“…if an intelligent stranger were asked to describe the most varied and the most beautiful, it is probable he would name the county of Perth.” –  Sir Walter Scott, The Fair Maid of Perth

Great art picks up where nature ends” – Marc Chagall

The exhibition also delves into the historical context of Perthshire’s rise as a tourist destination, stimulated by the development of railways and tourism guidebooks in the late 18th century. This sparked a demand for landscape art, creating a lasting connection between artists and the region’s enduring appeal.

By experiencing these landscapes through art, we’re invited to reflect on our shared responsibility to protect them. The exhibition encourages us to view the land not just as a subject for art and tourism, but as a living legacy for future generations.

Perthshire Illustrated opens Friday 3 October 2025.
