DATE: 17 October 2025 - 17 October 2025

TIME: 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

LOCATION:

TICKETS: yes

EVENT TYPE: City of Craft

EVENT SUITABILITY: Adults (16+)

Three new Community Assets are available in Perth City Centre: a glass kiln, a ceramics kiln, and a photography dark room. These assets are tools that members of our local community can use without the costs of a regular membership or rent. You only pay for what you use, for instance for the kilns, you will pay for the electricity used, and for the dark room a small fee towards the replenishment of chemicals used.

These taster sessions are designed for those new to film photography or wanting to rediscover the joys of analogue. You will get to handle a variety of film cameras from the humble Box Brownie to fully professional cameras in a variety of formats. We will discuss the merits and creative controls offered by each camera and how to select the camera best suited to your own individual film adventure.

In this session, you will also get a tour of the Community Dark Room and a demonstration of what is involved in processing and printing your own black and white films.

Paul Adair has extensive experience of film photography and was a former professional darkroom technician before becoming curator of photography at Perth Art Gallery. There will be an opportunity to register an interest in future photography and darkroom workshops.

We have tried to make the cost of these sessions as accessible as possible at £11.50 including booking fee. If you would like to take part, but the cost is prohibitive, please contact perthcraftcity@gmail.com.

Location: Perth Creative Exchange

Dates: 17 October from 10:30am-12:30pm.
