Join us at the AK Bell Library for a day of free, drop-in activities to mark Burns Weekend and highlight one of the treasures on display in Perth as part of OUTWITH, the National Library of Scotland’s centenary programme. Visitors will have the rare chance to see Robert Burns’ moving poem Lament for Mary, Queen of Scots, shown alongside other significant works which connect poetry, drama, and history as part of The Last Letter of Mary, Queen of Scots exhibition.
The library will be buzzing with activity. Families with little ones can enjoy Scots and Gaelic Bookbug sessions filled with rhyme and song. A roving Burns character will be on hand throughout the day for photos and conversation, sharing stories about his life, works and enduring influence. Older children can join author Barbara Henderson for a lively session inspired by her novels, with prizes including signed copies of her books for anyone brave enough to recite a Burns verse or share a poem of their own. Alongside these activities, a Burns corner with puzzles, colouring and creative challenges will run all day.
Whether you’re introducing children to Burns for the first time, looking for family activities for the weekend, or curious to see the treasures on display, this lively day at AK Bell offers something for everyone.
Suitable for children and families.
