Explore the stunning landscapes of Perthshire through the eyes of artists from the late 18th century to the present day. Drawing from the permanent collections cared for by Culture Perth and Kinross, this exhibition showcases how our iconic surroundings have been depicted—from romanticised views to reflections on modern environmental challenges.

Featuring over fifty objects, paintings, and maps, including works by artists such as Horatio McCulloch, Katsushika Hokusai, Alexander Naysmith, and JD Fergusson, discover how these landscapes have been interpreted both nationally and internationally, reflecting changes in society,  perspectives and artistic movements over time.

The exhibition also delves into the historical context of Perthshire’s rise as a tourist destination, stimulated by the development of railways and tourism guidebooks in the late 18th century. This sparked a demand for landscape art, creating a lasting connection between artists and the region’s enduring appeal.

By experiencing these landscapes through art, we’re invited to reflect on our shared responsibility to protect them. The exhibition encourages us to view the land not just as a subject for art and tourism, but as a living legacy for future generations.

Admission to Perthshire Illustrated is free, however donations are welcome, with a suggested donation of £5.

You can Become a Supporter for only £4 a month and get free, unlimited entry to paid exhibitions at Perth Museum and Perth Art Gallery.
